The sound of a cicada can be deafening, but it can also be the perfect buzz to drown out the negative thinking in your head. It's loud, overpowering and sharp, and it's really weird that it comes from an insect.

And, hopefully, a soundscape that will continue to add meaning to summer childhoods. So glad to hear this. This is an editied version of acclivity's sound file, "30832_acclivity_summereveninginmygarden". His original file contains a barking dog, which depending on your usage, can deter from the intent of your project. Since acclivity's recording has excellent signal to noise ratio, and has captured some beautiful birdsong, i thought other people might be able to use this edited file with all the dog barking taken out.

A peaceful recoding typical of early summer in the midwest. Recording done in the middle of a big field composed of alfalfa grass and milkweed. Recorded with marantz pmd661 using two matched stereo, samson co2 condenser microphones with my record volume on 7. Saturday may 23rd, 2015, around 6:00pm.

A wonderful typical mid-summer soundscape of cicadas, and some katydids recorded on the edge of a small town in illinois. Towards the end of the recording you will hear a very cool doppler-effect as the truck passes from right to left. Recorded about 8:00 at night with my zoom h4-n recorder using it's internal microphones. I had the volume level set fairly high -- 80 -- so you will probably also hear the constant hum of the various central air conditioning units. .
